All access requests to TARLA are reviewed for safety, technical feasibility, and, if necessary, ethical compliance. The allocation and scheduling of beamtime depend on the selected access mechanism.
TARLA issues two calls per year, accepting proposals for peer-reviewed access to beamtime in the upcoming cycle.

🧭 General Information
Beamtime refers to access to TARLA’s beamlines and is typically allocated in 8-hour shifts. The accelerator operates in 6-month user cycles, including scheduled maintenance and development periods.
Users may apply through one of the following access mechanisms:
- Peer-Reviewed Access
- Purchased Access
- Rapid Access
- Beamteam Access
Cycle | Scheduling Period | Call Open | Call Close | PRC Meeting (Week of) | Results Announced (Week of) |

🧪 Peer-Reviewed Access
TARLA accepts proposals through Calls for Proposals (CFPs) issued twice a year. Proposals are evaluated based on scientific excellence and publication potential. Approved projects remain active for two years, during which beamtime can be requested in each cycle.
⚡ Rapid Access
Designed for urgent scientific needs, Rapid Access allows beamtime requests outside regular calls under specific conditions. These may include time-sensitive experiments or high-priority work that must be completed within a short timeframe. Beamtime allocation is limited and conditional.
💼 Purchased Access
Purchased Access is available through our Industrial Science Program, a dedicated service group providing flexible options for:
- Rapid Access to measurements
- Proprietary experiments with confidentiality
- Full-service operation from sample preparation to data analysis
This model is tailored for industrial partnerships, commercial R&D needs, or special measurement services. Access is fee-based and carried out under a formal agreement.

👥 Beamteam Access
Researchers affiliated with beamline-specific teams (Beamteams) at TARLA may be allocated beamtime based on internal priorities.
